Gunnar Henderson, the talented infielder for the Orioles, has expressed a strong desire to play for Team USA in the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic. In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, he confirmed that he would gladly accept an invitation to join the national team.
The Baltimore Orioles shortstop stated that representing the Red, White, and Blue is one of his personal ambitions in baseball. He remarked excitedly about the opportunity to participate in such a prestigious event.
Henderson shared, “Anytime you have a chance to do that, it’s pretty special. That’s something that I definitely look forward to and hopefully can do one day in the future.” His enthusiasm for the tournament reveals his passion for baseball and national pride.
Despite the strong competition for the shortstop position on Team USA, with capable players like Trea Turner, Bobby Witt Jr., and Mookie Betts in the mix, Henderson believes he has a solid chance to earn a spot on the roster.
Since making his debut for the Baltimore Orioles in 2022, Henderson has showcased tremendous talent, boasting a .266 batting average along with 76 home runs and 205 RBIs, complemented by 35 stolen bases prior to a recent matchup against the Brewers.
This season has been challenging for the 23-year-old as he continues to recover from previous injuries. However, Henderson expressed optimism about a turnaround for both himself and his team as they work to improve their performance throughout the 2025 season.
